Food has always been my passion and I am grateful to live in a multicultural society where I can constantly
broaden my cultural knowledge through food.
My parents were both born in Australia and come from a diverse cultural mix, as do most Australians – mine were Welsh, Irish, English, German and Jewish. I grew up in Fremantle in WA, which had a predominant population of Italian, Croatian and Portuguese.
As a young girl I remember admiring the local Italians and their passion for food. For them food was not a chore, it was more of a ritual. I saw families bottling tomatoes together, making sausages, pickling olives and having fun!
Food has always been my passion and I am grateful to live in a multicultural society where I can constantly broaden my cultural knowledge through food. I have been blessed to travel and work with different culinary and cultural traditions.
Food can be the first step in appreciating what other cultures have to offer. Sharing food, swapping recipes, learning different preparation techniques is a wonderful insight into other cultures.
Celebrating and appreciating our differences is important. Plus it’s a good excuse for a nosh-up and to share food made by the people who know and love it best.
