Why should Australians get involved with A Taste of Harmony?

To embrace the broad culinary influences that exist in this country, which reflects the amazing people who live in Australia. Our multiculturalism defines Australia, and makes the total experience more than the sum of its parts.

Why have you decided to support A Taste of Harmony?

I’m a Scotsman born in Ireland, trained in Italy and France to an Irish father and Australian mother with Sri Lankan, Philipino, Spanish, Danish and Thursday Islander blood in my veins. Oh, I am also married to a Canadian. Not surprisingly, the central tenets of A Taste of Harmony resonate strongly with me!

As a migrant, what has your experience been living in Australia?

I have been here 12 years and they have flown by. It’s the best place in the world and I love it more each year. The first time I saw the twelve apostles, the first time I dipped my toe in the Pacific Ocean, the first time I tasted mud crab and Moreton bay bugs, ‘finding’ North Stradbroke Island...

Is celebrating cultural diversity important to you?

My family is a melting pot of cultures and nationalities. My workplace is a melting pot of cultures and nationalities. It’s fantastic! I have been gastronomically spoiled my entire life!

Do you encourage cultural diversity at your workplace?

I wish to be an employer of choice and also ensure I employ the right people for the right jobs. The diversity of my workforce reflects this principle.

At Brett’s Wharf I have a team of 100 staff. We have French, Spanish, Korean, Chinese, English, Canadian, South African, Philippino, German, Italian and Irish!

In the kitchen, diversity of cultures adds an additional boost to the working environment.
