Spicy South Indian Fish Fry

This is a very simple preparation from the south of India. You can use any fish for preparing this, but for best results, I would recommend Seer fish or Spanish Mackerel.

The fried cutlets look really good when served, especially when you use the fish that I suggested earlier for the best results, again nothing wrong if you are going with a normal fillet. But they should not be bigger than say a 10cmX10cm size.

  • Fresh fish pieces – 10
  • Chilli powder – 3 tsp (or as per your spice scale)
  • Pepper powder – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
  • shallot paste – 2 tsp
  • Garlic paste – 1 tsp
  • Vinegar (or lemon juice) – ½ tsp
  • Salt to taste
