Delicious sweet porridge-like dessert from India
- 100g jaggery
- 3 cups rice
- 200g sugar
- 50g dry fruits
- 50ml ghee - clarified butter
- 2 cups milk
- 1.5 cups red lentils/masoor dal
- water
Roast dal till it turns golden brown in a pan or wok. Boil jaggery in 1 cup water to make thin syrup, drain and keep it aside.
In a pressure cooker, heat ghee and fry the dry fruits till golden brown. Add milk, sugar, rice, roasted dal, and jaggery syrup boil and cook for 3 whistles. Stir well. Garnish with dry fruits and serve hot or chilled.
Note: If pressure cooker is not available, you can cook in a deep bottomed pan with a lid tight lid.
1 whistle = 15 mins on medium flame.
